This is the first of what I call a "kaleidoscope" top. Both because the pattern looks like a kaleidoscope image, and because this type of top came about because of my collaboration with master kaleidoscope maker Randy Knapp on a couple of kaleidoscopes.

The stem is Purpleheart, with Yellowheart inlays.  It is set into a ring of Yellowheart surrounded by yet another ring of Blackwood. The main disc is a lamination of Purpleheart, Yellowheart, with just a bit of Maple.  The underside has a complementary pattern.3 1/2" tall x 2 1/8" dia
